Allegra Sleep was born in Nicaragua just as things were heating up and ready to erupt into the Revolution. She was in her first group show at the American Embassy in Managua at age two. A move brought her to Taos, N.M. in 1989. Primarily self-taught, the artist grew up watching her mother paint. Allegra works in acrylics, and often uses bright primary colors, what she often refers to as her “crayola colors”. Her work frequently references scenes from childhood in Latin America, and old B&W family photographs. Find her work at Taos Artisans Gallery, on Bent Street. Email allegrasleep@hotmail.com
